A man hacked his father-in-law to death over a family dispute in Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon.
The ill-fated victim was identified as Badsha Gazi, 65.
Quoting the victim's daughter, police said the accused Murad Ali, 40, from Narail, used to live in-law's house as his wife and the victim's daughter Tania was the headmistress of local Dhalaitola Primary School.
On Thursday, Murad along with his two children went to his village in Narail and returned to the in-law's house on Friday afternoon. Subsequently, he hacked the victim to death over the family dispute while he (victim) was in sleep, leaving him dead on the spot.
Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Anisur Rahman confirmed the matter.

Police recovered the body of the victim from the spot and sent it to Gopalganj General Hospital for autopsy, he said.
Police have also visited the area and collected evidences. Legal action will be taken in this regard, added the OC.
