A Chattogram court sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment for raping a teenager girl on Tuesday.
The convict is Md Abu Taher, 58, was accused of raping a thirteen-year-old girl in Fatickchhari upazila of Chattogram district.
The order was passed by Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Judge Ferdous Ara after the accused was found guilty beyond doubt upon examination of all the records and witnesses.
Tribunal-7 Public Prosecutor Shafiul Morshed Chowdhury said that the court handed Taher the sentence of life imprisonment in jail and also fined him Tk 3 lakh.
Tribunal Bench Assistant Kafil Uddin said that the court has sent the accused to jail after announcing the verdict. Thirteen witnesses testified in the case.
According to case documents, Taher raped a thirteen-year-old girl was in her house after braking into her family's residence at Datmara union of Bhujpur on September 25, 2022. Later, her mother lodged a case with the police station and police pressed charges against the accused.
The court framed charges on June 1 last year.
