A man was fined Tk 4 lakh by a mobile court for illegally extracting sand from Meghna River in Charlapang of West Union under Nabinagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria on Thursday.
The man was identified as Md Khorshed Mia a resident of Narsingdi's Raipura upazila.
According to the act of soil management 2010, he was fined Tk 4 lakhs during a mobile court drive. Later, his dredger machine, used for illegally extracting sand was seized and put in the police custody and ordered to be sold through auction.
Nabinagar Assistant Commissioner (Land), Md Iqbal Hasan conducted the drive under the supervision of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ekramul Siddique. The fine was collected immediately.
