A man named Habibullah, 65, died while getting down on a trawler from a launch in Sadarghat area of Dhaka on Thursday noon.

Habibullah is the son of Abdul Hai of Gosaibagh area of Panchsar union of Munshiganj Sadar upazila.

Habibullah's son Mohammad Parvez, 28, said his father left Munshiganj for Dhaka's Soarighat at 12:10pm. Arriving at Sadarghat, he tried to get on a trawler to go to Soarighat.

His foot slipped while getting on the trawler and he fell. At that time, the pressure of the launch and trawler hit his chest and he started floating right after he fell into the water. The Swarighat-bound trawler rescued him and he was taken to Mitford Hospital, he added.

Habibullah was not provided immediate oxygen and medical treatment at the hospital. Because of his critical  condition, he was referred to Dhaka Medical College. However, he died at Mitfot Hospital around 2.30 pm before being taken to Dhaka Medical College, his son claimed.

Passengers are constantly getting on and off from launch to aboard trawlers in the middle of the river without stopping the launches. Therefore, the passengers are at risk of meeting with accidents like Habibullah while traveling on this route.

When contacted, Mohammad Kabir Hossain, IC of Muktarpur Naval Police Outpost, said, "We have not noticed the issue of lifting passengers by the trawler from long-range launches. Passenger transport in trawlers is certainly risky and we will take action against it.”
