A Manikganj court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death penalty for killing a teenage girl after rape at Baro Shampur village in Manikganj. After hearing all the records and witnesses, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Mohammad Ali Hossain handed down the verdict in presence of the death penalty.
The condemned convicted was identified as Md Shahadat Hossain alias Sadhu, 33, son of deceased Abdul Latif Sheikh of Baro Shampur village in Daulatpur upazila of Manikganj district.
According to the prosecution, On 18 October, 2018 the accused Shahadat Hossain alias Sadhu went to visits his daughter-in-law Selina Begum's house at Hemayetpur in Savar. Later, he accompanied victim Akhi Akhter, 13, in the name of reche her to her grandfather’s residence at Dighulia village under Saturia police station in Manikganj district.
There, the accused Shahadat Hussain forcibly raped the victim Akhi. Later, the accused suffocated to killed Akhi and burned the body pouring petrol to save himself from being rape and murder charge. Police recovered the burned body and sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for post-mortem on 20 October, 2018 from an abandoned deep tubal in Sham Pur area of the upazila.
Later, police arrested Shahadat Hossain alias Sadhu from their respective house on the basis of mobile tracking. He confessed in the court to killing a minor girl after rape.
After a long investigation, the investigating officer SI Abdul Hiy of Daulotpur PS submitted the charge sheet in the court against the alone accused Shahadat Hossain alias Sadhu on 19 January’2019. The court recorded deposition by all of 15 witnesses before passing the verdict.
