Man beaten by children seeks justice

An elderly father of Ramu in Cox’s Bazar is being tortured at the hands of his own children and grandchildren. The torture is being carried out in an attempt to take possession of his firming land. His second wife was also injured in the process.

The victim was identified as Abdur Rahim, 75, a resident of Khalpar area of Khuniapalang union of Ramu Upazila in Cox's Bazar.

Abdur Rahim said that after the death of his first wife, he married Aisha Begum as the second wife. The first wife had two children and the second wife has 4 children. He lives on the land of another man with his second wife. There are some PF-listed land in his possession, where he does some firming.

He said, his son from his first wife, accused oof several police cases Danu Mia, 44, has become desperate to get possession of those firming land. Over the years, Danu Mia has harassed his father many times for this reason. He was last injured with a scathe on Sunday, March 5.

He said the attack was carried out by Danu Mia along with his other son (Danu's own brother) Abdul Gafur, grandson (Danu's son) Rubel aand Danu's wife Hasina Begum. Apart from being hit by scathe there are other signs of injury on his body. The second wife, Ayesha Begum, was also injured in the attack and their house was vandalized.

Elderly Abdur Rahim said that he had earlier complained to Ramu police station in connection with the attack. A local UP member Jane Alam promised to look into the matter. But Abdur Rahim did not find any solution. He said, he is still in treatment. 

The old man asked help from the Superintendent of Police and Officer-in-Charge of Ramu Police Station to stop the torture of his son.
