Police arrested a man for allegedly strangling his seven-month-pregnant wife in Rajanagar village under Labsa union of Satkhira Sadar on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Parveen Akhter, 25, wife of Abdul Khaleq of Jamaipara in Rajnagar village of Satkhira Sadar. She was the daughter of Abdur Rahim alias Babu of the same village. Victim's brothers Rafiqul Islam and Tariqul Islam said his sister Parveen Akhter was married to brick kiln worker Abdul Khaleq, son of Mozammel Haque of Hajipur village, eight years ago. They have a daughter named Farzana.

Recently, Khaleq got involved in an affair with another woman from the same area. The couple had been arguing over this for a week.  As a result of this dispute, Khaleque strangled Parveen to death after torturing on Tuesday night.

Locals said, in the morning when they heard victim's daughter Farzana crying, they broke into the house. At this time, they found Parveen's body wrapped in a blanket. There were marks of rope on Parveen's neck. Shortly afterwards, the angry villagers detained Khaleq and handed him over to the police.

Officer-in-Charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station Mohammad Asaduzzaman said the body of Parveen Akhter was sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital Morgue for autopsy. Abdul Khaleq, the victim's husband, has been detained for questioning.
