Police have arrested a man named Sumon (28) for allegedly raping a 7-year-old child at Badalkort Union in Chatkhil upazila of Noakhali.
The mother of the child became the plaintiff in the incident on Saturday (April 30) morning and the woman also filed a case under the Child Abuse Prevention Act.
Earlier, the accused was arrested from Paschim Badalkot village of the upazila on Friday night on the basis of verbal allegations.
The arrested Md. Sumon is the son of Abdul Quddus of Sheikh Bari in Paschim Badalkot village of Badalkot union of the same upazila.
Chatkhil Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gias Uddin confirmed the matter and said that the mother of the abused child went to work as a maid at a house near her house on Friday morning. His seven-year-old daughter was with her mother then. Around noon, the child told his mother and left for home. On the way home, Sumon took the child to her house and raped her in the nearby forest. The child later reported the matter to his mother. Accused Sumon was arrested in an immediate operation after the victim's mother lodged a verbal complaint on Friday night.
He further said that the victim has been sent to Noakhali General Hospital with 250 beds for medical examination. The accused has been handed over to the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in a case filed by the child's mother.
