Malaysian universities continue to improve their standings in global rankings, they remain highly regarded regionally and are attractive destinations for students seeking quality higher education in Southeast Asia, Mr. Sayed M Ariful Hassan, an expert in higher education consultancy.

The Founder and Chief Education Officer of 'Knowledge Hub' a renowned education consultancy organization, also an alumni of a Malaysian University, Mr. Arif Syed said Malaysian universities offer a conducive environment for learning, personal growth, and cultural exchange, making them a popular choice for students seeking a high-quality education in a diverse and vibrant setting.

Arif Syed, a successful careerist and higher education consultant recognised worldwide replied to several questions set by Bangladesh Post covering the wider spectrum of higher education for Bangladeshi students specially in Malaysian Universities.

The excerpts of his interview is produced for the Bangladesh Post readers:

Bangladesh Post: As an alumni of a renowned Malaysian University could you please describe the quality and environment of education in Malaysia?

Arif Syed: Thank you for asking this question, this is a pretty common question that I get from students and parents while discussion What Malaysia can offer to an international student. As an alumnus of Malaysia, I can attest to the quality and vibrant educational environment the country offers.

Malaysian universities pride themselves on academic excellence, boasting world-class faculty and state-of-the-art facilities.

The diverse student body (student from over 150 countries) enriches the learning experience, fostering cultural understanding and collaboration. With affordable tuition fees and a focus on research and innovation, Malaysian universities provide a well-rounded education that prepares students for success in their chosen fields, both locally and internationally.

Overall, Malaysian universities offer a conducive environment for learning, personal growth, and cultural exchange, making them a popular choice for students seeking a high-quality education in a diverse and vibrant setting.

Bangladesh Post: Now please brief us about the rating of Universities in Malaysia among the world-famous Universities?

Arif Syed: In global rankings, Malaysian universities have made significant strides in recent years, although they may not yet be on par with the world's top-tier institutions. Several Malaysian universities consistently rank well in various international rankings, such as the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

University Malaya (UM) ranked 65 globally and University Putra Malaysia (UPM), University Technology Malaysia (UTM), Malaysian National University (UKM) and University Science Malaysia (USM) are among the highest-ranked Malaysian universities, typically appearing in the top 100 or top 200 of global rankings.

They are recognized for their academic quality, research output, and international reputation.

From private and specialized university in Malaysia, Sunway University, Taylors University, UCSI University, Asia Pacific University, University Technology Petronas, Xiamen University Malaysia Campus, Swinburne University, Monash University, Curtin University, Harriot-Watt University, Nottingham University, University of Wollongong and many others are among the top ranked universities.

While Malaysian universities continue to improve their standings in global rankings, they face stiff competition from established institutions worldwide. However, they remain highly regarded regionally and are attractive destinations for students seeking quality higher education in Southeast Asia.

Currently there are 28 Malaysian university ranked by different university ranking bodies. This signifies the quality of Malaysian education where more than 50% of the country’s university been highlighted by the ranking body.

Bangladesh Post: As an expert in higher education consultancy and designing career plan, how would you suggest students from Bangladesh to study in Malaysia?

What are the main criteria to get admitted in any famous Malaysia University?

Arif Syed: For Bangladeshi students considering studying in Malaysia, a strategic approach is essential. Firstly, they should thoroughly research Malaysian universities to identify institutions offering programs aligned with their academic interests and career goals.

Secondly, meeting the admission criteria is crucial, which typically include academic qualifications, language proficiency (often demonstrated through tests like IELTS, PTE, MUETor TOEFL).

Thirdly, students should ensure they submit their applications accurately and on time, paying close attention to each university's specific requirements and deadlines. Additionally, exploring scholarship opportunities can help alleviate financial burdens associated with studying abroad.

Once admitted, students need to secure a student visa following the procedures outlined by EMGS (Education Malaysia Global Services) and the Malaysian Immigration Department.

Finally, preparing for arrival involves arranging accommodations, travel logistics, and participating in orientation programs to ease the transition to Malaysian university life. They can get assistance from a professional consultant who have years of experience in Study in Malaysia, I would also suggest to talk to Malaysian Alumni to have an insight from someone with practical experience.

For students and parents to get firsthand information, Malaysian government is organizing a Study in Malaysia Education Expo in Dhaka at Sheraton Banani (26-27 April), Chittagong at The Peninsula (29 April) and Sylhet at Rose View Hotel (1 May).

EMGS officials and university representatives from more than 15 universities will be present there to provide counselling and on the spot admission to students. They can visit the event to meet and discuss with universities and EMGS officials directly.
