The national review committee on power, energy and mineral resources has recommended appointment of international law experts or investigation agencies to examine the major power contracts signed between 2009 and 2024 during the past Awami League regime.
The committee, led by Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury, submitted the recommendation to the interim government on Sunday, seeking more time to analyse the contracts.
The committee is currently gathering opinions from the experts related to the country’s power sector to take decision on power contracts, sources concerned said.
On the basis of the opinion, the committee will recommend reconsideration or even cancellation of some power contracts signed during the period, the sources added.
The government will take final decision based on international arbitration laws and standard procedures.
The committee in its recommendation said that appointment of internationally recognised experts or investigation agencies is important to ensure transparency in the review process.
“To assist the review process, we recommend immediate appointment of one or more reputed international law and investigative agencies,” the committee said in its recommendation.
The committee has already begun examining several high-profile power contracts.
