The largest cattle sheds in the south region are now empty as cattle smuggling from India has stopped. Two thousand cattle traders associated with cattle smuggling are living without jobs.
Some of the cattle traders are van drivers, some are easybike drivers and some are working as day laborers. One of them is Nasiruddin, a cattle trader who started a small cattle farm with only five cows. Nasir Uddin is a successful farmer from Putkhali, a village in the border of Benapole.
He has been farming his dream cattle farm for 15 years. Nasiruddin started his journey in 2013 with only 5 cows of Nepali breed. Later he bought 15 more cows with a loan of Tk 7 lakh from a local Bank and some of his own capital.
The farm has reached its present condition through the gradual breeding of 10 cows.
Now just move forward. He is working tirelessly to remember the past of hardships left behind. Hard work has given him the success. At present his annual income is about two crore taka. It is learned that at present his farm has 120 dairy cows. These cows give to 500-600 liters of milk per day.
Every day different milk processing companies and sweet shops supply these milks.At present his farm has 120 cows, 550 bulls and 120 calves. Its estimated market value is about 2 crore taka. In addition to the cattle dairy farm there is a goat farm. Where there are about 125 goats of native and improved breeds. At present 75 workers are working in his farm. He is paying them from 8 thousand to 12 thousand taka per month. The workers said that they are very happy to be able to work in the farms.
Farmer Md. Nasir Uddin said, every year after deducting expenses, one and a half to two crore taka has earned. With the rise and fall of cattle feed prices and milk market, income also fluctuates.
He added that the success of his farm was due to the cooperation of local livestock officials. There has been no major problem since the farm.
He thinks that cattle farms can be used to eliminate unemployment in Bangladesh. With the help of the government, it is possible to eliminate 30% unemployment in this sector.
Al Amin of Putkhali village said the self-reliant Nasir is now a man of respect and love for the locals and his family. Following him, many people in the area are now interested to farming cows, goats and poultry.
People in the border areas in particular have been inspired by Nasir's success to become self-reliant. Former chairman of Putkhali Union Md. Hadiuzzaman said, I saw Nasir Uddin come to this place today with inhuman hardship. Seeing Nasir, many men and women of the union have changed their fortunes by running small cattle farms.
Jashore District Animal Resources Department official Rashedul Haque said, Nasir's farm is the largest cattle farm in this region. He is a skilled farmer. Seeing him, others in the village are being encouraged to farming cows farms. The cows of his farm are being supplied to different parts of the country by meeting the demand of the district.
