A teacher at South Kairpara Hafizia Madrasa, Chowgacha Upazila of Jashore named Hafez Akhtar Hossain was taken into custody for allegedly abusing a 13-year-old student named Sohanur Rahman Sajid.
The victim's father had filed a complaint, which led to the arrest.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday (March 27), came to light the following day. Prompt action led to the arrest of the accused teacher, Akhtar Hossain, on Thursday night.
According to Sajid and his family, the dispute began when Sajid reportedly tampered with the Android mobile phone of Imam Ehsan Hussain of the adjacent mosque before Tarawi prayers on Wednesday.
The Imam brought this to the attention of teacher Hafez Akhtar Hossain, who proceeded to physically assault Sajid. The incident was captured on the madrasa's CCTV cameras. Sajid recounted the ordeal to his father the following morning, leading to the lodging of a complaint with the police on Thursday evening.
Chowgacha Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, revealed that this wasn't the first time Akhtar Hossain was accused of assaulting students, although previous incidents had not been reported.
