Lychee trees blossom in Chatmohar

In favourable climatic conditions this season lychee flowering swamp trees in Chatmohar. So farmers of Chatmohar are happy with a prospect of bumper lychee production this year. According to Chatmohar Agriculture Office, 90 percent of lychee trees in the orchards and home stead on around 610 hectares of land in all 11 unions and municipal areas have already bloomed as the process continues smoothly.

After getting repeated bumper production and high market price last few years, farmers are expanding commercial basis litchi farming every year as many of them have changed fortunes by cultivating lychee. Farmers have already become busy with agronomic management in their lychee orchards to ensure better production of the fruit through the flowering process will continue till middle of March.

According to Agriculture Office, 6,700 lychee cultivators producing lychee in some 610 hectors of land. 

Lychee cultivators Zahangir Alom and Khalilur Rahman of Ramchandro­pur village under Chatmohar upazila said, “We are working very hard. We water trees regularly. Moreover, we are keeping a constant contact with the local Agriculture Officer.” Chatmohar Agriculture Officer A.A Masum Billah said, “Most of the farmers are cultivating rapid-growth hybrid and local varieties such as Bedana, Bombay, China-3 and Muzaffar in their orchards for getting better output.”
