The prices of Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG) and auto gas have gone up again. A 12 kg private LPG cylinder now costs Tk 1,033, which was TK 993 in August. However, the price of the unit was Tk891 in July and Tk842 in June.
Meanwhile, price of per liter auto gas used in vehicles is Tk 50.56 which was Tk 48.71 in August, Tk 44 in July and Tk 41.74 in June.
The new price is effective from September 1 (today).
However, price for the state-run LP Gas Limited’s 12.5 kg remains unchanged due to no changes in the production cost. Currently its price is Tk 591. Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Chairman Md Abdul Jalil announced the new prices at an online press conference on Tuesday.
Among others BERC members Maqbool E-Elahi Chowdhury, Mohammad Abu Faruk and Bazlur Rahman, Secretary Rubina Ferdous and others were present at the press conference.
BERC has set new retail prices for the first time by lowering the retail price of LPG on April 12 after a public hearing with LPG operators and people concerned. After that, BERC has been adjusting the price every month based on the Saudi Contract Price (CP) of Propane and Butane. Propane and Butane are the two components of LPG, which Bangladesh imports from the international market. However, LPG operators in the country are not implementing BERC’s recommended price. Private LPG operators have been selling LP gas at a higher price.
It was informed at the press conference that the prices of 5.5, 12.5, 15, 16, 18, 20, 25, 30, 33, 35 and 45Kg LPG cylinder have also been re-fixed in the BERC order.
Meanwhile, the use of LPG has started centrally in the residential units and factories. The new method uses LP gas from large cylinders at the bottom or side of the house or factory together. Gas is being supplied from these cylinders to houses or factories through pipelines. Its price is also re-fixed by the commission.
The price of LPG supplied in this reticulated system has been increased from Tk 80.43 to Tk 83.77 per kg including VAT, which was Tk 71.94 in July.
