Extreme gas crisis has been seen across Chattogram city and adjacent areas of the district. The stoves are often not lit in the houses and restaurants of the city due to acute gas shortage. Additional pressure of the car is created at the filling station. Due to the reduction of gas-powered transport on the roads, people going to work have to face difficulties.
To avoid suffering, many people had to rely on earthen stoves for essential tasks including cooking. Segun Prasad Barua, a resident of Jamalkhan area of the city, said that they are not cooking at home since Saturday because there is no gas. We were forced to buy food from restaurants. We then had to buy
gas cylinders at high prices for food at night.
Meanwhile, the sale of LPG cylinders at homes has tripled as the supply has stopped in the pipeline. Due to the increase in demand, the traders are delivering directly to the buyers instead of taking it to storehouse. However, despite the increase in demand, the price has remained unchanged, they said.
A shopkeeper of LPG Cylinder in the city said that our sales have increased since yesterday. 12 kg LPG demand is maximum. Sales have increased since this morning. Where earlier 15 gas cylinders were sold daily, today we got 50 orders. Due to high demand, the goods are being sold before being taken to the storehouse. Many are coming to the storehouse and taking gas cylinders. Cylinders are being sold at previous prices. The sale of gas cylinders has increased in various government and private offices along with houses
The government decided to close two floating LNG terminals at Maheshkhali in Cox's Bazar to avoid the outbreak of Cyclone Mocha. Since then the gas supply has been stopped. On Sunday, the city's supply was virtually cut off.
Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) in an emergency notification said that it may take six to seven days to normalize gas supply. They said that LNG will be closed as the situation is not normal.
