Due to ongoing Corona pandemic situation, students have been selected through lottery in Thakurgaon Government Boys' High School like other government schools in the country this year. However, there has been allegations of various anomalies in the lottery process.

An online lottery was held for the admission of secondary schools across the country on Monday. The results of the lottery were published on the same evening.

In the admission lottery of Thakurgaon Government Boys’ High School a girl named Wasima Akhter Lubna, daughter of Haider Ali of Sangao village in Baliadangi upazila of Thakurgaon district, was selected.

Her name appeared in the admission list of class 3, day shift students of Thakurgaon Boys’ High School while, another student named Borhanuzzaman’s name was shown twice in the list.

There is a storm of criticism on social media Facebook in this regard. A person named Ahmed Raju criticized the lottery process with his status on Facebook, saying that it could lead to frustration among the young students.

Utpal Mujib, a parent expressing frustration over the lottery process said, “If there had been a written test, my son would have passed without a doubt. There is no value of merit in this process. Despite my son's merit, he did not get a chance to get admission in any good school”.

Meanwhile, the girl's father, a madrasa teacher Haider Ali said, “We did nothing wrong with the application process, but now we do not know what to do. I am requesting concerned uthorities to make arrangements for my daughter to get admission into Thakurgaon Girls’ High School”.

In this regard, Thakurgaon Government Boys’ School Headmaster Pijus Kant Roy said, “The Ministry of Education will decide whether the girl student will be admitted here or not. We have nothing to say here”.

When asked how a girl was selected in the admission lottery, he said it could be due to a parent's mistake. The admission form had the names of 5 schools. They might have selected the name of Thakurgaon Government Boys’ High School instead of Thakurgaon Girls’ High School while filling out the form”.

Thakurgaon District Education Officer Khandaker Al Azad was called several times on the cell phone to know about the matter but did not receive the call.

Meanwhile, most of the guardians were frustrated. They said, in this Corona situation, where there is a crowd of people everywhere, there would have been no harm in taking written tests.
