Lockdown rolls on at 5 upazilas of Lakshmipur

As the coronavirus epidemic wreaks havoc across the country, to curb the spread of the virus lockdown continues for the 5th day on Saturday in five upazilas of Lakshmipur district which are marked as red zones. 

In the last 24 hours, an old man named Wali Ullah (65) died of coronavirus in Khaguria village of Sadar upazila. Neighbours including the family of the deceased have been kept in quarantine. A total of 12 people have died in the district due to corona.

On the other hand, as a result of the 5th day lockdown, all the raw markets, shops, businesses, government and non-government offices, internal and long-distance public transport in five municipalities and 11 unions of the district have been closed.

People and traffic are being controlled by tying bamboo on different roads of the city. This is disrupting the normal life of the people.

While many of them agree, some of them do not follow the health guidelines or social distance. Police, RAB, Ansar and other law enforcement agencies are trying to convince the people about this.

Besides, a total of 54 people have died in Lakshmipur district so far with corona symptoms. In their sample tests, 11 of them tested corona positive. In addition, in the last 24 hours, 15 more people, including a peon of the health department in Raipur have been  tested positive. 

With this, the number of corona victims in the district reached 564 people. Civil Surgeon Dr. Abdul Ghaffar confirmed the information. 

Meanwhile, Raipur Upazila Keroa Union Parishad Chairman and Upazila Awami League leader Shahjahan Kamal is undergoing treatment at United Hospital in Dhaka after contracting COVID-19. However, medical sources said that his condition was critical. His son has also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Raipur resident prominent industrialist Mohammad Ali Khokon, chairman of Dhaka-based Maxons Group, has come up with consecutive negative reports of COVID-19. He is currently in good health.
