Lockdown in Ukhia, Teknaf, Rohingya camps extended

Strict lockdown has been extended till June 6 in Teknaf and Ukhia upazilas of Cox's Bazar and five Rohingya camps due to uncontrolled corona virus infection. Prior to this, a strict lockdown was declared for ten days from May 21 to May 31.

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Parvez Chowdhury and Ukhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nizam Uddin Ahmed said, “As per the decision of Cox's Bazar District Corona Prevention Committee, lockdown was imposed in Border Upazila Teknaf from May 21 to May 31.” The lockdown has been extended till June 6 as the number of corona cases is not under control. Strict lockdown will be implemented in these two upazilas due to increase in corona infection and Rohingya inhabited areas.

Meanwhile, five Rohingya camps in Ukhia and Teknaf have also been given one more week of lockdown.

Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Samsuddauja said camps 2, 3, 4, 15 and 24 in Ukhia had been locked down for 10 days due to the increase in infections.

It has been extended for another 7 days. The lockdown has been announced as the corona infection is not under control. All kinds of activities are closed in the camp except emergency activities including medical and food items.
