Liton, Naeem score tons as Rangpur fightback

Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper batsman Liton Das was not able to play the first round of the ongoing National Cricket League (NCL) due to his participation in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL). 

However, the right-hander returned to NCL second round with a bang.  He scored a century for his team Rangpur Division on Day 3 during the NCL match against Dhaka Division at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram yesterday.

After Day 3, Rangpur Division scored 334/5 in reply to Dhaka’s 556/8d. They now trail by 222 runs with 5 wickets to spare. Along with Liton, batsman Naeem Islam also scored a century and is now unbeaten at 124. 

The right-hander Liton, scored his eighth century for Rangpur division and also crossed the 100-run mark in an innings for the fourteenth time in his first-class career. Liton played a 189-ball 122, with 14 fours to his name. Earlier, he hit six tons in 16 matches in the BCL for East Zone. However, with the country and ‘A’ team Liton is yet to record a century to his name.

Batting first, Dhaka Division declared their first innings with a mammoth total of 556/8, thanks to Saif Hasan’s double century. In reply to the second day of batting, Liton’s Rangpur responded well. Liton, who was unbeaten on 51 in the second day, completed his century on the third day. He reached his ton in 133 balls, with 13 fours.
