Three people were killed in a lightning strike on Eid day in Kalihati, Tangail. Another was injured in the incident.
The incident took place on Tuesday at around 9 am at Hatia Gudara Ghat in Dashkia Union of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Ariful, 18, son of Rabiul of Hatia Dakshin Para village and Faisal, 18, son of Julhas of the same area.
The injured has been identified as Rakib, 21, son of Razzak of Hatia Dakshin Para village.
Confirming the matter on Thursday, Dashkia UP Chairman MA Malek Bhuiyan and former UP member of Ward 3 Abdul Hamid said that Ariful, Faisal, Rakib and Rakib's sister-in-law Mostafa went to bathe in Hatia New Dhaleshwari river in preparation for Eid prayers. When Rakib was injured in the lightning strike, his family members rescued him and took him to Tangail General Hospital. Doctors on duty declared Ariful, Faisal and Rakib's sister-in-law Mostafa dead.
In this regard, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nazmul Hussain said, the Tangail Deputy Commissioner immediately provided financial assistance of Tk 30,000 to the families of the three victims.
