A fisherman was killed due to lightning strike in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Jafar Ahmed, 50, son of Kabir Ahmed, resident of Moazzin Para under ward no. 5 in Silkup union of Banshkhali upazila.
Deceased Jafar Ahmed was father of five children. He used to earn his living by catching fish.
It was learnt that, he went to fishing with a polo, a bamboo made equipment for catching fish, on Wednesday night. It was raining with lightning at that time. When a lightning bolt struck him, he was killed at the spot.
Eyewitness Bodi Alam said when he went out on Thursday morning he saw a light and went ahead to see it. He saw Jafar is laying there with a torch light in his hand. His polo was laying beside him.
The locals assumed he died from lightning strike and a part of body got burned.
Local Union Parishad (UP) member Ashik Hossain Chowdhury said Jafar Ahmed of his area was struck by lightning when he went for fishing on Thursday night. Part of his body got burned.
