At least seven people were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts on Sunday. Three fatalities were reported in Sylhet and four in Sunamganj.
In Sylhet, Redwan Ahmed, 21, a student at MC College in Sylhet and resident of Saroil village at Bishwanath upazila of the district; was killed while fishing in a pond at Bishwanath. Jaman Uddin, sub-inspector of Bishwanath Police Station, confirmed the student’s death.
On the other hand, Masuk Miah, 53, of Rajnagar village at Companiganj upazila; was killed while farming beside his house. Ujayer Al Mahmud Adnan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station; confirmed the death.
Ansar Ali, a farmer in Sadar upazila; was killed by a lightning strike in his area, said Monir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahporan police station.
In Sunamganj, four individuals lost their lives in separate incidents. The deceased were identifies as Jalal Mia, 30, Jasim Uddin, 29, Sharif Mia, 35, and Sundar Ali, 72.
Md Zakir Hossain, additional superintendent of police in Sunamganj; said that the four victims died while fishing in a haor during a storm. Additionally, another person was electrocuted in Bishwambharpur in the district.
Jalal Mia and Jahim Uddin of Polirchar village at Dowarabazar upazila died at nearby Dekhar Haor while fishing with other fishermen in the morning. Jahidul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dowarabazar Police Station; confirmed the news.
Meanwhile, Sharif Miah of Kalaguja village at Jamalaganj upazila died while fishing at Pagnar Haor at the upazila. SM Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jamalaganj Police Station; confirmed the news.
On the other hand, Sundor Ali of Mallikpur village at Chhatak upazila; died near his home. Golam Kibria Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chhatak Police Station; confirmed the matter.
