A legal notice has been served on Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources for taking action against Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) General Manager (Finance) Morshed Hossain Azad, who is also a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), over allegedly age fraud and using fake experience certificates to secure his job.

Besides, a writ petition has also been filed in the High Court for the same allegations.

Advocate Mohammad Ahsan served the legal notice on behalf of Muhammad Ziaul Haque, the convener of ‘Students for Sovereignty, a Dhaka University based organisation.

In the legal notice and the writ petition, it has been claimed that when BPC issued a job circular for the post of Deputy Manager (Marketing) on March 13, 2009, Morshed Hossain Azad was 36 years and 4 months old, which was above the required age limit of 35 years. Furthermore, he allegedly submitted a fake experience certificate from an entity named Glowar Trading, which was later flagged during an audit. Despite this audit finding, no investigation was conducted.

The legal notice further asserts that, being a powerful leader of the then ruling party’s student wing, Morshed Azad used his influence to manipulate the recruitment process and was later involved in several cases of corruption.

The legal notice demanded that the authorities take action against Morshed Hossain Azad for his job termination over fraud and involvement in corruption within seven days.

As no action was taken within the given timeframe, later a writ petition was filed in the High Court on October 23.
