Local Education and Economic Development Organization (LEEDO) has officially launched the “KRAFT Modell Manual”, aiming to promote teamwork, fairness, and non-violent communication through play-based participatory learning. LEEDO is the only organization in Bangladesh that conducts educational activities using KRAFT Games through its “School Under the Sky” program.
The launching event of the KRAFT Modell Manual was held on Saturday (7 March 2026) at LEEDO Peace Home in Waspur Garden City, Dhaka, where distinguished personalities from the fields of education, sports, child development, human rights, and social development were present.
The KRAFT Model represents a new educational approach in Bangladesh, where games are used as an effective medium for learning. Based on LEEDO’s long-standing field experience, workshops, and experimental activities, 50 KRAFT games have been included in this manual.
During the event, a presentation highlighted the journey and activities of the KRAFT Model. The story behind the development of the model and the manual was shared by sociologist Syed Mosaddeq Hossain, Nazmul Hasan, Zisan Rahman, and Tahsin Haque.
Nazmul Hasan, Director of Grant Acquisition and Proposal Development at LEEDO, stated that around 2013, the international organization Pernova joined this initiative with LEEDO. Pernova has been working with this model globally, and the journey of the KRAFT Model in Bangladesh began through LEEDO.
He further added:
“Earlier, we learned moral lessons through Aesop’s fables. In the KRAFT Model, children learn through play. Each game ends with an educational message that supports children’s social and emotional development. There are many ways of learning beyond the formal education system, and play-based learning is one of the most important.”
The welcome speech was delivered by Murshida Akter Kanta, Admin and Finance Director of LEEDO. She said:
“Today is a special milestone for us as we officially launch the ‘KRAFT Model Manual’. Developed through joint research by LEEDO and PERNOVA, this model is an innovative approach to ‘Learning through Play’. It is based on five pillars—Body, Rules, Acceptance, Fairness, and Team—which help nurture children’s psychological and behavioral development.
For children growing up in disadvantaged and challenging environments, this model offers an effective and participatory alternative to conventional education systems. This manual is not just a book; it is a powerful guideline for teachers and social workers that will open new horizons in building children’s confidence and positive social behavior. We believe this initiative will play an important role in building a humane and inclusive society.”
The President of Pernova, Mr. Roger Humble, joined the program through an online conference. He said:
“Today is a very joyful day for me. More than ten years ago, we began working with LEEDO on the concept of the KRAFT Model for street children in Bangladesh. Although the games are simple, they play an important role in developing children’s skills.”
He also mentioned that while KRAFT Games are used in various countries including Ethiopia, the KRAFT Modell Manual developed for Bangladesh is unique, as it incorporates LEEDO’s own experiences along with elements of local games.
In his speech as the Chief Guest, Mofidul Hoque(Founding Trustee of the Bangladesh Liberation War Museum; recipient of the Ekushey Padak 2016 and Bangla Academy Literary Award 2013) said:
“One of the institutions working to keep alive the dream for which the freedom fighters of Bangladesh sacrificed their lives is LEEDO. To truly honor the martyrs, we must stand beside the deprived people of society, which LEEDO continues to do.”
In his concluding remarks, Farhad Hossain, Founder and Executive Director of LEEDO, said:
“We work with children because they are an integral part of this society. I express my gratitude to everyone present today. This manual has been designed for the children of Bangladesh with local context and elements of indigenous games. Besides Bangladesh, this model has also been published in Bosnia. The manual will help empower marginalized children, women, and youth.”
Several distinguished guests from different sectors also spoke at the event. Among them were: Amran Khan, Superintendent, Child Development Center, Department of Social Services, Sajeda Akhtar Lipi, President, Inner Wheel Club of Lobelia Dhaka, Mahbul Haque, Executive Director, HRDC, Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, National Award–winning footballer, Monir Hossain, Joint Secretary, Bangladesh Country Games Association and Chairman, Bangladesh College Physical Teachers Association, Professor Ruhul Amin, Md.
