Bangladesh Under—19 cricket team won the World Cup in South Africa in 2020.

The Young Tigers clinched the Asia Cup trophy beating UAE by 195 runs in the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on December 17, 2023.

Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby will lead the team and all the members of the Asia Cup final are included in the South Africa bound team for the upcoming U-19 World Cup that would be staged on January 19.

Bangladesh coach Stuart Law is very hopeful and confident of winning the World Cup on South African soil. But he is also cautious about the opponent teams. He said, “Anything can happen in limited over match. None can be sure of what will happen.”

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 15-man squad for the upcoming World Cup on Monday last.

The coach was present at the press conference when the board announced the team. He said, “It is the first duty to win the match. We must apply the theory for victory. I shall never give attention to the match or result of the match. I want to control which is in my hand.”

“How shall we go ahead, what would be our preparation, we must adamant to our plan, strategy should be applied against the opponents in the field, above all the team have to be confident in every outings,” said the coach. ‘Match against five times champions India, is the most important at the moment.

The encounter will commence at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfotein, South Africa on January 20.

Then we will think about the next match. It is our plan to go forward match by match,’ added Stuart Law.

Bangladesh have a great chance to go unbeaten in the group stage. The Young Tigers are in Group A.

They will face India, Ireland and the US on 20, 22 and 26 January respectively.
