Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a 'former leader of the Rohingya community' along with five and a half lakh yaba from Balukhali refugee camp in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar.

Commanding Officer of RAB-15 Cox's Bazar, Wing Commander Azim Ahmed said the operation was carried out near the mosque adjacent to the CIC (Camp In charge Office) of Rohingya Camp No. 9 in Balukhali of Palangkhali Union in Ukhia Upazila at midnight on Monday.

Detained Md. Gura Miais the son of late Nur Ahmed of G-31 block of Rohingya Camp No. 9 in Balukhali, Ukhia.

Wing Commander Azim Ahmed said a team raided the area near the mosque adjacent to the CIC office at Rohingya Camp No. 9 in Balukhali, Ukhia, at midnight on Monday to deal with a large consignment of drugs. When they reached the spot, miscreants sensed the presence of RAB members and couple of them fled the scene. RAB members were able to catch one of them by chasing him while he was running away.

The RAB official said, "The detainee during interrogation told that the people who escaped during the RAB operation were his drug traffickers. They formed an organized syndicate and collected yaba consignments from the Teknaf border and smuggled them to different parts of the country for a long time."

A case has been filed against the detainee at Ukhia police station, said Wing Commander Azim Ahmed.
