Largest-ever Yaba consignment seized, 2 arrested

Cox's Bazar Detective Branch of Police (DB) seized the largest ever yaba consignment smuggled by sea on Tuesday noon. Seven bags containing 14 lakh yaba tablets and two smugglers were seized from Chaufaldandi Ghat in Cox's Bazar Sadar during the raid. 

Mohammad Ali, Officer-in-Charge of the district detective police confirmed the information. The trawler used for smuggling was also seized at the time.

The detainees were identified as Md. Jahirul Islam Faruq, 37, and Md. Babu, 55. Both of them are from Uttor Nuniarchhara area under Cox’s Bazar Sadar municipality. Legal actions are being taken against them.

After the seized trawler along with the yaba was brought to Chaufaldandi Ghat, a crowd of curious people gathered. In the presence of the locals the Yaba tablets were recovered from the trawler. 

DB Official Mohammad Ali said, “My team started working for the operation a few days back on the instructions of the Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police (SP) and finally managed this successful expedition with my team by working very hard”.

Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police (SP) Hasanuzzaman said that a team of district DB police has been working for three days to seize this consignment. They even worked in those areas for some time in disguise. Then, they conducted the operation on the basis of secret information and arrested 2 people along with 14 lakh yaba. 

”We are working under the direction of the Prime Minister by declaring a zero tolerance policy against drugs. No matter how powerful the drug dealers are, no one will be exempted in any way”, warned the sp.
