Chattogram district administration fears landslides due to continuous heavy rains. To avoid the risk in this situation, 19 shelters have been opened in the city.
The administration has also started miking activities, which will continue till heavy rains to inform people to move away from the foothills.
The hill adjacent to Fayes Lake in the city and the hill of Bayezid-Faujdarhat CDA Link Road have been announced as risky during miking on Monday. Residents of the risky hills have been urged to move to shelters quickly.
The matter has been confirmed by the Executive Magistrate Touhidul Islam of district administration. He said a total of 19 shelters have been opened in Chandgaon, Bakalia, Agrabad and Kattali circles of the city to ensure social distance amid the corona pandemic so that people can move to safer places from the risky hills.
To avoid damage due to heavy rains, the Assistant Commissioners (Land) 6 Circles of the city have set up shelters in coordination with the City Corporation councilors.
People are also being urged to take shelter in safe places through miking from local mosques in hilly areas. Every time before and after the prayers, due to the intensity of the rain, the muezzins of the mosque are urging the people to evacuate from the dangerous hilly areas on behalf of the district administration.
The 19 shelters that have been opened includes Pahartali Girls High School, Quad P-Block Government Primary School in Kaibalyadham World Colony Area, Firoz Shah Colony Primary School in Pahartali, Firoz Shah Housing Estate, Baitul Falah Adarsha Madrasa, H Block, Firoz Shah Housing Estate etc.
