Kuakata mayor’s brother, another arrested for cutting submarine line

Police arrested two people on charge of cutting the power supply connection cable of the second submarine cable landing station at Kalapara in Patuakhali and damaging the transmission system. Mahipur police arrested them on Monday. 

The two arrested are Hossain Mollah, brother of Kuakata municipal mayor and Abul Hossain, a land trader.

Earlier, Harun Aur Rashid, a security officer at the submarine cable  landing station, had filed a case against eight people, citing five.

On Sunday afternoon, without permission, the transmission line of a submarine cable about two meters deep was cut in Amkholapara village of Gora Amkholapara village in Kalapara. This slowed down the internet speed across the country.

Upon receiving the news, senior officials of the administration including the managing director of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited Mashiur Rahman visited the accident site at night. 

After the internet connection was cut off for about 11 hours, the engineers reconnected the torn power supply line after 12:30 am. After that the internet supply is normal.
