Initiatives are being taken to set up a separate real-time RT-PCR lab at Khulna University as the coronavirus outbreak has led to a massive increase in sampling pressure to detect the virus in Khulna.

Initial communication and process has been started in this regard. The lab will be set up at the central laboratory of the university’s principal Prafulla Chandra Roy.

University authorities are seeking assistance from the Bangladesh University Grants Commission in setting up the lab. With the necessary support, work on setting up the lab is expected to begin as soon as possible.

In addition to detecting the coronavirus, the lab will also be used to test other microorganisms. A review meeting on the annual performance agreement of the University was held on Wednesday, where the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Fayek Uzzaman spoke about the initiative.

Professor Sadhan Ranjan Ghosh, Treasurer of the University,  members of the relevant committee, core committee, innovation committee, working committee, deans of different schools and others expressed their views at meeting.
