Leaseholder KSRM Steel Plant Limited has officially launched No. 4 Lighter Jetty at Sadarghat on Karnafuli River. Chittagong Port Authority and senior officials of the leaseholder organization were present at the brief function organized on the occasion on Thursday afternoon.
KSRM Deputy Managing Director Sarwar Jahan Rokon said, “Our own products will be loaded and unloaded through this jetty. If necessary, goods of other organizations will also be loaded and unloaded through rent.
However, it will depend on whether our goods are in port or not. I don't think it will be necessary as we carry our own products throughout the year.
Chief Executive Officer Meherul Karim said KSRM went one step further commercially with the launch of the Lighter Jetty.
As well as increased self-reliance and capacity. No. 4Sadarghat Jetty will be fully operated under KSRM's own management. The goods will be unloaded from the large vessel (mother vessel) waiting at the outer anchorage by bringing it to the jetty in its own lighter. We hope that the Chittagong Port Authority will identify the existing problems related to the jetty and take steps to solve them. By doing this we will be able to increase our capacity many times over. Chittagong Port Authority Chief Hydrographer Commander M Arifur Rahman said the launch of the lighter jetty would increase the dynamism of the Chittagong port as well as expand trade and commerce. In particular, these jetties have created untapped opportunities for private investors. We believe that this will make private investors more interested in using the port of Chittagong.
The port authorities are working tirelessly to solve the existing problems in the management of the jetty by the lessees. He expressed hope that all the problems will be solved soon.

Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral M Shahjahan inspected the lighter jetty and asked the lessees to start it on July 4. Following that, KSRM launched their leased jetty. The other three lighter jetty tenants are Ruby Food, BSRM and AKS. The concerned lessees have taken initiative to launch these jetty in phases.
