Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam said that wholesale raw markets will be opened at convenient places around Dhaka to deliver vegetables, fish and other products coming to the capital from various parts of the country including the southern region through the Padma Bridge at affordable prices to the city dwellers.

This morning, after visiting the capital's Jatrabari Kacha Bazar Arat along with Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, Mayor of South City Corporation, he informed the media after exchanging views with the media.

The minister said, our aim is to bring the manufactured goods to Dhaka and take measures so that the producers can profit by selling them and the people living in the city can also enjoy the benefits. We want to establish the wholesale raw materials markets in such a way that the cargo vehicles coming from the North, South and East can be unloaded at the entrance of Dhaka.

In order to review these issues, a decision will be taken where such wholesale sale can be arranged after discussing with everyone including the Mayor of Dhaka City. He said that careful attention will be kept to ensure that the quality of the product does not deteriorate, and that problems do not arise in the environmental and communication systems.

Md. Tajul Islam said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given instructions to bring raw markets in the capital under proper management.

There is no way to override it. The raw markets should be established in such a way that the produce from any part of the country can be supplied from the designated wholesale market to the various retail markets of the capital and people can buy these products at affordable prices.

He said that due to the determined spirit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the dream Padma Bridge has already been launched. As the huge neglected area of the southern region is connected to Dhaka, it will now be possible to take many products including vegetables and fish to Dhaka. As a result of which the farmers will get the natural price as well as the consumers will get the products at hand.

In this regard, the minister also said, we have seen that earlier the people of the southern region were discouraged from producing crops as they could not market the produced products easily. Now that it can be brought to Dhaka and buyers can be found, enthusiasm has started and many crops have been produced.

During the visit, Member of Parliament for Dhaka-5 Constituency Kazi Monirul Islam Manu, senior officials and councilors of the Local Government Department and Dhaka South City Corporation were present among others.
