Five times champions of the Bangladesh Premier League football, Bashundhara Kings traveled to Bhutan with the dream of playing in the next phase of the AFC Challenge League. But after defeats in the first two matches in group stage, confirmed their exit from the tournament. After confirming their elimination, the last match of the group stage against the hosts Paro FC was just a formality for Kings. Kings lost by 1-2 to the minnows and completed the campaign with another failure.
Club football in Bhutan has not a strong foundation and weak in South Asia. New superpower in Bangaldesh football, Bashundhara Kings could not win even against minnows Bhutanese club Paro FC. Despite trailing by a goal, Paro FC bounced back strongly to control the possession and finally won the match. Bashundhara Kings theough played some pressing football anad pu the under pressure in the second half, but could not equalise margin. King’s forwards failed to mark the target as Paro's goalkeeper made some excellent saves.
Bashundhara Kings lost the first match with Saad Uddin scoring a suisidal goal. In the lat match also kings conceded a suiside goal when their foreign recruited defender Zumaev put the ball into his own net trying to clear an ordinary move by Paro.
In the second half newly appointed coach made some changes but was not any impact.
Bashundhara Kings took the lead in the 12th minute through in the Valery’s goal. But their lead did not last a long, as just after 12 minutes the Paro forward beat goalkeeper Mehdi Hasan Sarabon to level the margin.
Oscar Brujon could not bring Kings ino the knockout phase of the AFC Cup in his five attempts but the Spanish coach made it success at first attempt wih the East Bengal. India's East Bengal secured the knockout stage by defeating Lebanese club.
