Killing, torture of journalists in Munshiganj protested

Journalists in Munshiganj at a rally demanded the trial of killing and torture of journalists, the re-opening of closed media and the repeal of the Digital Security Act.

The rally was held at the temporary office of the Engineering School and College adjacent to the Munshiganj Stadium at around 11 am on Saturday, organized by the Munshiganj Journalists' Union and with the overall support of the Munshiganj Reporters' Unity.

President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) M Abdullah spoke as the chief guest in the gathering.

BFUJ Vice-President Obaidur Rahman Shaheen, Publicity Secretary Mahmud Hasan, BFUJ Former Assistant Secretary General Ahmed Matiur Rahman, Daily Tarmigan Editor and Publisher Haji Muhammad Salim spoke as special guests.

Munshiganj Journalist Union is chaired by Kazi Biplab Hasan. General Secretary of Munshiganj Journalist Union Md. Robel Moderated Munshiganj Reporters Unity President Hosne Hasanul Kabir, Munshiganj Reporters Unity former member secretary Samchul Huda Hitu, Organizing Secretary Shahnaz Begum, Treasurer Md Farhad Mia, Women Affairs Secretary Nasima Sultana Rita, Momin Biswas, Minhajul Islam, Munshiganj District Online Press Club General Secretary Jahangir Alam, former President Abdus Salam, Mahbubur Rahman, Anichur Rahman Rolin Speech. 

Also, former convener of Munshiganj Press Club, Manjur Morshed, Tushar Ahmed, Liton Mahmud, Raj Mallik, members of Journalist Union and members of Munshiganj Online Press Club were present.

In the speech of the chief guest, BFUJ president M Abdullah said that everyone should be vocal in protesting the killing and torture of journalists across the country, the opening of closed media and the repeal of the Digital Act. Everyone should work together to get the rights of journalists.

The speakers at the meeting strongly condemned the killing of journalist Nadim and demanded exemplary punishment of those involved in the killing. 

They said journalists should be sincere while covering news. They must maintain objectivity in discharging their responsibilities, he said and called upon journalists to work being imbuing with the ideal of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
