The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied forces captured six Myanmar junta camps, including
Nahpaw military camp, located between Laiza town, the headquarters of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), and Pajau Bum village on 21 March, according to KIA sources.
Starting from 19 March, the KIA and its allies launched a vigorous assault on these six strategically significant junta camps. By early 21 March, they had managed to capture all of them.
The six camps are namely U Lawgaung camp, Nahpaw camp, Point 667 camp, Yinsaingkone Camp, U Gashan camp, and Lisu Pajau camp. Another frontline source confirmed that clearance operations for all the camps have not yet been conducted due to ongoing airstrikes by the junta following the capture of the army camps.
“We are uncertain about the extent of their capture, but I’ve heard that they are still pursuing Military Council soldiers who are fleeing from the camps,” said a source from the KIA.
According to KIA sources, the total number of military personnel in all six captured camps is nearly 300. KIO news and information reveal that the Nahpaw military camp, which was surrendered by the KIA to the regime in May 1987, was recaptured by the KIA on 21 March, 2024.
Since 7 March, the KIA and allied forces have been launching attacks on Military Council camps along the Myitkyina-Bhamo road. As of this report, the KIA has gained control of more than 30 Military Council camps, leading to an escalation of the conflict in Kachin State.
