People of Khulna are happy over government’s initiative of establishing a medical university in Khulna.
The proposal to establish the Sheikh Hasina Medical University in Khulna district was approved recently. Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) approved the proposal and sent the notice to Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Khulna.
The people are happy with Sheikh Hasina as the prime minister and her government have taken necessary steps to set up the medical university.
A jubilant procession was brought in Khulna city on Sunday, greeting the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Khulna district administration and Khulna District Development Committee jointly brought out the procession from the premises of DC's office. The procession ended at the Circuit House of Khulna after parading different city roads.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Lokman Hossain Miah led the procession while Khulna Range DIG Dr Khondoker Mahid Uddin, KMP Commissioner Khondoker Lutful Kabir, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna Mohammad Helal Hossain, Police Super SM Shafiullah, Civil Surgeon Dr ASM Abdur Razzak, chairmen of different Upazila Parishads and many others joined the jubilant procession.
A number of people of Khulna city and district also joined the colourful procession with colorful banners, festoons and placards, hailing the premier.
Many people of Khulna said that a long-cherished dream is going to become a reality.
The Khulna district administration sent a proposal to PMO on August 19 for building a medical university in Khulna in the name of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The proposal was prepared following a conversation with Mayor of Khulna City Corporation Talukder Abdul Khaleque Talukder and MP from Khulna-2 Salahuddin Jewel.
There is only a single public medical college in Khulna which is certainly not enough for covering the entire division. For this reason, patients are forced to go Dhaka or abroad in most cases.
