Khulna mayor inaugurates tree planting programme

Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque said that besides planting trees, trees also need to be taken care of. There is no substitute for tree planting to maintain the balance of the environment.

The Khulna City Mayor said this while addressing the inaugural function of tree planting program through Zoom App in all primary schools of Khulna city and upazilas at Circuit House on Thursday noon.

The program was inaugurated as part of the 'Green Belt Phase-II' project in Khulna district on the occasion of 'Mujib Year' at the initiative of Khulna district administration as part of planting 120,000 trees.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain presided over the function while Khulna Environment Department Director Saifur Rahman Khan, Metropolitan Awami League General Secretary MDA Babul Rana, District Primary Education Officer ASM Sirajuddoha, Metropolitan Freedom Fighter Commander Prof AlamgirKabir, Khulna Press Club President SM Nazrul Islam and Khulna were present as special guests. 

Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) Golam Mainuddin Hasan, Executive Director of RupantarSwapanGuha, General Secretary of Khulna Press Club Mamun Reza and others were present. Besides, UpazilaNirbahi Officers and Headmasters of Primary Schools were also present on the occasion through Zoom App.

Food distribution

Mayor Talukder Abdul Khalequealso distributed foodstuffs and cash among 957 distressed, needy and jobless families to mitigate their sufferings, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, reports BSS.

He distributed 120 mounds rice and other relief materials among 957 needy, jobless and destitute families at city’s ward number 25.

Each beneficiary received a sac containing five kilogram of rice, potato, onion, soya-bin oil, pulse, soaps and iodized salt.

General Secretary of Khulna city Awami League (AL) MDA Babul Rana, councillor and ward AL president Mohammad Ayub Ali, General Secretary Sarder Abdul Halim, among others, were present.
