Khulna city paralysed by heavy rain

Heavy monsoon rain inundated most parts of Khulna city on Saturday, inflicting immense sufferings on the city dwellers.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department recorded 114 millimeters rain in six hours till 9 am in Khulna and it was the highest rainfall in this year.

Most of the areas including Satrasta and Royal Hotel intersections, Iqubalnagar, Moulvipara, Nirala, Moylapota, Shibbari Mor, Boro Bazar, PTI Mor, Rupsha Stand Road, Khalishpur and Dowlatpur get waterlogged after the heavy downpour that started at 3am.

All the shops and business establishments remained closed till filing of this report at 11 am.

Mozibur Rahman, a private job holdar said that most part of Khalishpur road has gone under water. Water and water everywhere.

Rashed Ali, resident of East Baniakhamar, said that BK main road of that area has gone under kneel down water. Shops are remain closed due to the heavy water logging.

Sheikh Ashraf Uzzaman, General Secretary of Greater Khulna Development Action Committee, said that unplanned drainage system, garbage filed drain here and there, illegal occupying of canal for fish farming cause the waterlogging and the city dwellers suffer most.

KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque said that a project was taken up by KCC to excavate the city’s 22 canals in 2019-20 fiscal years.

Amirul Azad, Seneor meteorologist of Khulna Met office said that Met office recorded about 114 millimeters rain in six hours till 9 am in Khulna and it was the highest rainfall in this year.
