Khulna AL observes 21 August grenade attack

Khulna mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque on Wednesday urged the party leaders and workers to remain careful about conspiracy of making attempt on the life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to create destroy Awami League leadership. “Conspiracy is still going on to kill Sheikh Hasina,” he said in meeting in front of party office after a procession on the occasion of observing 21 August grenade attack day.

Mayor Khaleque, also president of Khulna city unit of Awami League, led the procession which paraded different streets. Local Member of Parliament Akteruzzaman Babu, among others, was present. Mayor Khaleque said the August 21 grenade attack in 2004 was aimed at killing Sheikh Hasina as parts of deep-rooted conspiracy to make a great vacuum in the Awami League leadership.

BNP-Jamaat instigated politics of hatred through the grenade attack, he said and demanded for unveiling masks of all masterminds behind the attacks to ensure their exemplary punishments. Earlier, district and city units of AL at their respective offices paid tributes to victims of the gruesome grenade attack. Elaborate daylong programmes were taken in observance of the day. The programs included hoisting of the national flag, party flag at half mast, placing wreaths to portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyrs of August 21 grenade attack and observance of one-minute silence.
