Keraniganj-Mushiganj highway to widen to connect northern region

The government is going to widen the Dhaka-Keraniganj-Munshiganj highway to ensure smooth transportation and road connectivity between country’s northern and southern districts.

Under the project, 9km highway from Dhaka’s Keraniganj to Munshiganj’s Hasara to be improved and widened for establishing smooth road network with the capital and northern districts of the country.

Keraniganj-Hasara-Birtara-Singapara-Kajolpur-Nagerhat road is an important district highway in Munshiganj district. The highway stretches 23.89 km, of which 23 km falls in the Munshiganj district while 0.89 km is located in Siradikhan upazila of Dhaka district.

The road also connects the Dhaka-Mawa National Highway and the Jinjira-Keraniganj-Nawabganj-Dohar-Srinagar regional highway. The importance of this road will greatly increase as an alternative road to Dhaka-Mawa the project is completed on completion of Padma Bridge.

The project, estimated of Tk 409 crore, will come from the government exchequer. The project will be completed from January 2020 and December 2022. The Roads and Highways Department will implement the project.

The project area is at Keraniganj of Dhaka and Sirajdikhan of Munshiganj districts. The government has taken several massive projects developing all networks including roads, rails and waterways across the country for smooth and safe travel.

Road communication with Dhaka-Mawa highway along with Padma Bridge and northern districts via Dhaka will be easier through implementation of the project.

The project titled ‘Improving the quality and breadth of the district highway from Keraniganj to Dhaka to Hasara in Munshiganj’.

The Road Transport and Bridges ministry has taken a project which has been approved by the executive committee of the national economic council (ECNEC) recently.
