The elections to Shailkupa municipality were held on Saturday (January 16). Awami League candidate Kazi Ashraful Azam elected mayor at a stretch for three terms.
A number of supporters belong to
the rebel mayoral candidate Toyebur Rahman Khan sustained injuries when the supporters of Azam swooped on them at places.
Returning Officer Mohammad Rokanuzzaman said that Kazi Ashraful Azam was elected mayor securing 10,887 votes, while his nearest candidate Toyebur Rahman Khan secured 7,881 votes.
