Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury on Monday said Chittagong is famous as a port city.  The benefits of the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) will not be visible if the city does not start working on the integrated development with the Chattogram Port Authority from now on.

He further said, “The look of Chattogram city will change once the construction work of the bay terminal is completed.  On the other hand, if the construction of the tunnel under the Karnaphuli River is completed, more than one suburb will be formed.  The necessary coordination of the development work of all service organizations is needed now.”

Chattogram City Corporation Mayor came up with the assertion when a delegation of Chittagong Port Authority led by Rear Admiral M Shahjahan came to meet him at the mayor's office on Monday afternoon.

The mayor further said that all the expenses of Chittagong City Corporation depend only on the house tax income.  In this case, the city corporation does not have any income generating project, but the scope of work is very large. He requested the Chittagong Port Authority to provide financial assistance to the CCC in compliance with government regulations.  The mayor added that concerted efforts would be made to rescue the city's canals from all illegal occupants.

Emphasizing on dredging to protect the navigability of Karnaphuli River, he said that if the navigability of Karnaphuli could not be restored, the  work started around the port would not be beneficial and the water

logging problem of the city would not be solved.
