Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will inaugurate the ferry service at Kalurghat in Chattogram next month.

ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury MP, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railway Ministry, said these things while inspecting the operation of the ferry service on Wednesday.

He said, there are three ferries here.  Two ferries will run from either side of the river.  There will be a reserve.  Traffic jam on both sides of Kalurghat bridge will be normal when the ferry service starts.  Once the ferry is operational we will start the bridge work.  I will strengthen the bridge.  The ferry service will continue until the new bridge is available.  Once the repair work of the bridge is completed, the train will start running.  Trains on Cox's Bazar route will be able to ply only through the existing bridge.

According to bridge department information, cars and trains will go together.  Earlier it was 7.5 meters.  Now it will be 12 meters high.  It will now cost more than double what it used to cost.  So the work of the bridge will not happen this year.  Work will begin early next year.  The engines of the trains running on the Cox's Bazar line will be slightly heavier.  So when you come to Kalurghat Bridge, you will slow down.

Railway Eastern General Manager Jahangir Alam said, we have seen the preliminary report after completing the work at the field level.  At the end of their studies.  We will start work only after giving full report.  The old Kalurghat bridge will be repaired and trains on the Cox's Bazar route will run on this bridge.

Sujan Chowdhury, Chief Land Property Officer of Railway Eastern Region, Pintu Chakma, Executive Engineer of Roads and Highways Department, Railway senior officials were present at the time.
