The Kalukhali Upazila Parishad elections of Rajbari are going to be held tomorrow (Tuesday).
There are three candidates from the ruling Awami League, other party and independent candidates. There is also one candidate from the Jatiya Party.
The candidates and their supporters passed restless time as the electioneering ended on Sunday midnight.
All the candidates, except for the Vice Chairman candidates, are accusing each other. There have been allegations that voters are being threated, along with other forms of attacks taking place. There have also been allegations of people being threatened with firearms.
There have been accusations of threatening to remove votes against independent candidate Aliuzzaman Choudhury Tito by the AL candidate.
Independent candidate Aliuzzaman Choudhury Tito has accused the AL candidate of breaking the election rules. Candidate Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui Haque has accused the goons of another party of filing false cases against his election workers and of threatening them.
Currently 4 candidates are running for the position of the Upazila Chairman position, including AL nominated current Chairman Kazi Saiful Islam, AL independent candidate Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui Haque, Aliuzzaman Choudhury Tito and Jatiya Party candidate Anisur Zaman.
The 3rd phase of the election was held on 24th March in the 4 Upazilas out of 5 in Rajbari. The 5th and last phase of the Kalukhali Upazila Parishad election will be held on the 18th of June. The Upazila was formed with 7 Unions in 2010. This is the second Upazila Parishad election to be held in Kalukhali.
There are 1 lakh 17 thousand 767 voters in this Upazila with 46 centres and 298 booths.
