We express our grave concern over the ‘teen-gang culture" which is on the rise at present across the country. Equipped with fire arms and sharp weapons, the gang members roam together at their respective areas and commit various crimes like mugging, extortion and stalking school and college girls, and other females.

They are also involved in drug abusing and peddling at their respective localities under the very nose of people representatives like members, councilors, chairmen, mayors, upazila chairmen and even lawmakers. No one dares to speak against them as they are being used by the local influential and people’s representatives to establish supremacy. Also, the gangsters are involved in committing various crimes through social media, which is called ‘social cocaine terrorism'.

We hope the

government will take immediate steps to address ‘teen-gang

culture’ problems prudently

Reportedly, different law enforcement agencies including police and elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) launched drive to net the members of juvenile gang across the country. In an overnight drive a special squad of elite force Rapid Action Battalion arrested 16 members of a teenage gang from the city’s different areas on Sunday.

The government should take immediate steps to address ‘teen-gang culture' problems prudently. In this regard, we hope Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself will take an initiative, asking her party lawmakers, senior leaders and local representatives, and local administrations to address this burning issue immediately.

We think only law enforcers’ cooperation is not enough to stop the teen-gang culture and drug abuse. Guardians should also take care of their children and monitor what they are doing so that they get no scope to involve themselves in teenage gangs. It has been noticed that many teenagers stay out of their respective houses not only after evening but also till late night. Therefore, guardians should not allow their teenage children to stay outside after dusk. Apart from the government and guardians, we all have to do our part to save our young generation from all sorts of crimes and drug abuse through waging all kinds of movements along with creating a social resistance.
