Jute warehouse gutted in Sarishabari

720 mounds of jute worth Tk 25 lakh burnt to ashes

A fire broke out in a jute warehouse at Sarishabari upazila in Jamalpur, burning 720 mounds of jute to ashes. The incident took place at around 10:30 pm on Wednesday night at Boyra Bridge Par area in Pogaldigha Union of the upazila.

Mizanur Rahman, Senior Station Officer in charge of the Upazila Fire Service, said the fire broke out in a jute warehouse, jointly owned by seven people in the Boyra Bridge Par area on Wednesday night. 

Upon receiving the news of the fire, two units of the fire service went to the spot and brought the fire under control after trying for about an hour. The fire is believed to have started due to lightning, he added.

The owners of the warehouse Akhtaruzzaman, Afzal, Ekabbar, Ujjal, Israel, Shaheen and Farhad Fakir said, “We got the news around 10:30 pm on Wednesday that our warehouse caught fire. We had 720 mounds of jute stored there.” 

Till the fire was extinguished, the warehouse and 720 mounds of jute kept in the house were burnt in the fire. As a result of this fire, we have incurred a loss of at least Tk 25 lakh according to the current market price of jute.”
