In Thakurgaon's Baliyadangi Upazila, relatives have held a human chain program in Thakurgaon to protest the murder of 5th grade student Zulfiqar Hasan Joy and demanding the arrest of those involved in a land dispute in Vanato Bangatuli village. They held the program at the crossroads of the district town on Wednesday morning.
Family members and neighbors, including Fatema Begum, the mother of the slain Zulfiqar, complained during the hour-long human chain program that her son used to study in the 5th class of Ideal Pre-Cadet School in Baliadangi Upazila.
“He was picked up and killed after being brutally tortured due to a land dispute. They killed my only child and threw him into the water. The next day the body was found in the water of a nearby canal. I am demanding justice for my son's killers from the government,” she said.
Neighbors have also demanded justice for those involved in the killings. They are demanding immediate arrest of the accused mentioned in the statement.
It may be mentioned that on the night of June 20, a group of people including Rohit Ali, son of late Pansar Ali of Vanato Bangatli village in Baliadangi upazila, picked up Zulfiqar and tortured him to death.
Later the body was thrown into the water. Although a case was filed by the family on June 29 at Baliadangi police station mentioning the names of those involved in the incident, the police are not arresting the accused for unknown reasons.
