Zaheer Raihan, a student of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) is participating in athletics discipline for Bangladesh at the Tokyo Olympics. He is a record sprinter in Bangladesh's 400 meters. He is scheduled to leave Dhaka on a Qatar Airways flight to Tokyo on Sunday evening.
Zaheer Raihan is a first year student in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS) of JUST. Internationally recognized coach Abdullah-Hell Kafi is going to be his coach. The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) nominated Zaheer for the Tokyo Olympics on the basis of his good performance at the domestic and international levels. Zaheer Raihan said that it is a great honor to play for the country in the Olympics. He said 'I am grateful to all the teachers and institutions that have encouraged me. It can bring fame for the country and the nation, for this I want the blessings of all. My goal this time is to break the previous record and make a new record. '
Vice-Chancellor of JUST Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain expressed his excitement to get the opportunity to participate in the Olympics of Zaheer Raihan. He said, "I would like to extend my warmest greetings and congratulations to Zaheer Raihan on the occasion of his participation in the Olympics. His participation in the Olympics is a source of pride for our university. Hopefully, the reputation of this university will be further enhanced by holding the hands of the best players like them. He also thanked all the teachers and students of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS) of JUST for their special role in the development of education and sports. "
Besides, Dean of the Faculty of Health Science Prof. Dr. Md. Nasim Reza, Chairman of the Department of PESS Prof. Dr. Md. Jafirul islam, Director of the Department of Physical Education Prof. Mohammad Tofayel Ahmed and other members of the JUST family congratulated Zaheer Raihan for getting the opportunity to play for the country in the Olympics.
Zaheer Raihan set a national championship record with a time of 46.86 seconds in electronic timing. Earlier, he took part in his own event in the World Youth Athletics Championships and the Asian Youth Athletics Championships and qualified for the semis.
