Jujube of Bagha being exported to Italy

After Mangoand Guava, Plum (Jujube) or Kul from Bagha Upazila is now being exported to Italy for the first time from the country. 

It is learnt, Plum, a very popular, tasty and delicious fruit is widely grown all over the country. This fruit is green and hard when it is raw while turns red or yellow, juicy and sweety-sour when it is ripened. Being a versatile fruit, it can be consumed both raw or in ripened forms. But the ripened is always favoured by the children and old aged person as well. 

According to experts, plum has 10 kinds of nutritional values. For its qualities and tastes, it is has now being exported abroad from Bagha Upazila on the effort of the local MP and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shariar Alam. Agriculture Officer of Bagha Upazila Safiullah Sultan informed during the last five years, mangoes of Bagha Upazila are being imported to countries like England, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, and France. These mangoes have got international recognition for the flavors and free from chemical After mangoes, guava and plums are now also being exported. And this has been possible  solely for the efforts of local Parliamentarian and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam.

Recently (On January 16th), Shafiqul Islam,  a farmer of Pakuria village of the Upazila, has sent 500 kg's of plums to Italy with the help of the Exporting Company of Dhaka 'Messrs Adab International'. The following evening Safiul Islam Sana and a young entrepreneur from the Bausa area Shahin Iqbal sent a total of 300 kg of Thai plums through the same company.

Saiful Islam in this connection said, many kinds of fruits are cultivated in our country throughout the year. Amongst them, plum or jujube is one of the most delicious and nutritious fruits. It is harvested in almost every district of Bangladesh. But Rajshahi, Cumilla, Khulna, Barishal, Satkhira, Bogura, Jashore, Chuadanga, and Mymensingh is renowned for producing quality plums. Plums of Bagha are rich in taste and delicacy, he added.
