The JuboMohila League, one of the affiliated organisations of ruling Awami League, is going to hold its 3rd national council today (Thursday), December 15, at the historic SuhrarawardyUdyan in capital with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of the Awami League, as the chief guest.

According to sources in the policymakers of the Awami League, a massive change in the leaderships of the organisation, including its president and general secretary are expected to be made through the council, which is going to be held after five years instead of scheduled three years.

The sources said that the changes in the leadership would be made as a number of leaders and activists of the organisation have become involved with various scams and controversial activities, which tarnished the image of the organisation and also of the ruling party.

That is why the policymakers of the organisation are said to be fed up with the existing leaderships.

Besides, the existing president Nazma Akhter and general secretary OpuUkil have been serving the posts for last 20 years in two consecutive terms. It should be mentioned that both Nazma Akhtar and ApuUkil have been leading the JuboMahila League since its foundation 20 years ago on July 6, 2002.

During its establishment, a convening committee with 101 members was formed in combination with the former Chhatra League leaders. The current president Nazma Akhtar was the convener of that committee. ApuUkil, general secretary of the present committee, was the joint convener of the committee.

After the foundation of the JuboMahila League, its first council was held after two years in 2004 when Nazma Akhter was elected as the president and OpuUkil as the general secretary.

Although the second council was scheduled to be held after three years in 2007, but it was held after 13 years in 2017. In that council, both Nazma Akhter and OpuUkil were reelected in those two top most posts.

Several leaders of the Awami League said the Jubo League might get new leaderships and those who would be selected or elected as the new leaders, they would have to face a big challenge to change the negative image that has been created among the people about the organisation.

According to the Awami League and JoboMohila League sources, there are at least a dozen of aspirants for the posts of president and general secretary of JuboMohila League.

Those names are being discussed for the post of the president of the organisation include incumbent general secretary OpuUkil, incumbent vice-president ZakiaParveenKhanam, KoheliKuddusMukti, AdibaAnjumMita and Sabina Akhter Tuhin.

Those names are being discussed as the general secretary include incumbent vice president AleyaSarwar Daisy, joint secretary Jeddah ParveenRimi, Shahnaz Parvin Dolly, Navana Akhter and Sharmin Sultana Lily.

Sources said who would be the selected leaders totally depends on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is the organisation chief of all the affiliated bodies of Awami League.
